We here at Anytime Animal Control do not recomend that you atempt to exclude bats without professional help. It takes a trained eye and a seasioned professional who knows where the bats are entering a building. Most bats can enter through a space where you can fit a book of matches. And a building must be physicaly inspected inch by inch. We here do not trap bats unless research calls for it. Instead, we evict them using exclusion programs and then bat proof the home. Needed repairs are done to the structure at that point and a guano removal process is schedualed.
Typical homes with bats are 75 plus years old. Wood starts to rot and shrink, and bats find the way in to the new bat hotel. Anywhere from one bat to thousnds can be inside. It all depends on the species and gender. So home maintainance will help you avoid needing a bat removal specialist.

When the comon little brown bats set up a nursery in your walls or attic, there could be thousands of them. In early November we start cleaning up homes which have had the colonies of bats humalely removed. Safety is our point of topic today. Bat guano is as good as gold for keeping things green, not the case for humans. Bat guano is mde up of the exo skelitons of insects, and no fiber. When pressure is aplied to a dropping it quickly turns to powder. A mouse dropping has plenty of fiber and just flattens out. This means that all you need to do is disturb the bat droppings to make them airborne. Now you are at risk of several illnesses caused by the dust. It can make you go blind if you get it in your eyes, or afect the heart/lungs by breathing it. To remove the issue, 100% eye protection is required. Also a hepa filter is needed for breathing protection. Hepa filters on suction equipment is also required. Removal of bat guano must be treated similar to asbestos. Insultion must be removed and afected structural parts of the home must be cleaned and sanitised. Protection of non smooth surfaces should be covered with plastic sheeting.
Removal of bat guano is extremely dirty work, but needed after the bat colony is humanely removed, for the safety of you and yours
