San Diego Coyote Experts Now Trapping and Removing Coyotes During Breeding Period

Often called Americas finest city, San Diego has its share of hazards to watch out for. An out of control coyote population is one of them. I hear the heart breaking stories too often. On almost a daily basis callers explain that they lost a cat or dog to a pack of coyotes, as I have as well. Personaly, I don’t agree with many animal advocates who want people to ignore the problem as if the coyotes own the land, and public safety comes secondary. Nor do I have problem with a coyote being a coyote, away from people. Its the packs in town I have a problem with.
Anytime Animal Control is an animal dammage control company commited to helping the public in urban settings. The first step is educating the public. Then mabe you can see the changes needed on your property to make the area less suitble for coyotes. If the problem is something you dont care to deal with, feel free to call 800-714-8727 to make an apointment with a trained wild life professional
A few years ago San Diego county was having some real issues with urban coyotes. Cats and dogs were missing or mauled, as well as several people being bitten as well. I personaly took the job, and within 30 days I captured and removed 153 coyotes. One pack had 22 members, meaning strength in numbers, they could kill and eat pretty much anything they wanted to, and they did. That was a worse case project that was left out of control for too long. Furthermore, an elderly man on the block had a soft spot for them and he was feeding them in his back yard. Carrying capacity of the land was made stronger by him, so they made more little coyotes.
Back before the area had so many comunities, San Diego realy didn’t have much to offer a coyote. So they numbered fewer. But now with irrigation, sod, fruit trees, bird feeders, and pet food bowls, a coyote can get a good meal without traveling far.
Let me explain how it works. The coyote will eat grain left out for birds in he has to… but the rats and squirrels are of more interest to him. And the bird feeder made the rats and squirrels take interest.
Now, why do coyotes kill dogs? The coyote is territorial and is trying to eliminate competition. Also, they want to be sure the young are safe from others who may harm them.
Carrying a cane or stick while walking a dog can stop a cotote attack. The attack will be started and done in seconds, so be decisive, and agressive! It doesn’t take much more than a hard TAP on a coyotes snout to make him lay down, this will give you 30-40 seconds to find out how fast you can run before he wakes up. Many a dog walker in San Diego has come home wishing he had a coyote stick with him.
A 6 foot fence can be jumped by a coyote, or he can dig under, so burry the bottom and go 7 ft.
No pet food left out over night.
Pick up fallen fruit every evening with out fail.
If you have cats claws removed, keep it in the house. It can’t defend itself or climb to safety.
Be sure the under side of your deck or home is completely closed off.Remember, you control coyote movement by controling food supply. And having rats and skunks living under there is an invite.

Encourage others to do the same! It must be concerted effort to keep the neighborhood safe. Coyotes Typicaly breed in the months of Jan. and Feb. Keep dogs indoors or under close supervision to keep them safe! Young children are also at risk!

If the following tips don’t resolve your issue, and it is too far out of control for you to deal with, feel free to call 800-714-8727 to have a professional coyote trapper humanely remove the animals. Re-locating coyotes is not effective, so company policy strictly enforces that ALL coyotes captured are humanely euthanised.

Learn More about Rats and Mice!

Anytime Animal Control is an animal damage control company comprised of the most highly trained and equiped men and women in the United States. is where you can learn more, or call 800-714-8727 to talk to a live operator 24/7
I’ll start with some questions asked by most clients about rats and mice, and the answers.
Are rats and mice dangerous?
If you are talking about the movie Willard, no. The only times I have seen a rat bite someone, it was in the face, and it was while they were asleep. It was my belief that the person bitten had the smell of tooth paste, or food on there face, and the rat was just trying to get some dinner. It only bit one time, near the mouth. As disturbing as it may have been, I realy dont thik the rat was attacking. There are some major problems caused by rats and mice. They eat food, and contaminate it with urine and fecies. They gnaw into everything! Weather to build a nest, or just to keep teeth sharp, even wires are fair game. Thats how it starts getting dangerous, with fires in the home. They, or the paracites they carry, such as fleas, mites, or worms can spread diseases. They are not socially acceptable. Rats and mice have been a problem for centuries because they have an increadable survival rate and are difficult to eliminate
How long do rats and mice live?
Only about a year in the wild, and 3-4 years in captivity. But they can have up to 84 young in a lifetime!
How can I control rodents?
Store garbage in containors with tight fitting lids.
Clean up spilled or un used pet food. The rats and mice will carry it into the walls of your home and store it there.
Keep bird feeders 50 feet from your home, and use rodent proof bird feeders. Rodents will take advantage of a free meal.
Clean up fallen fruits. If left to lay on the ground, rats will locate the area and move in.
Take away the shelter
A mouse can enter a hole the size of a nickle or smaller. Cracks in the foundation need to be filled with concrete and repaired. Screens and windows in bacements must be in good repair. Seal any holes where pipes and wires come into buildings. Repair any broken sewer lines.
Take away cover
Cleaning up the area, cutting shrubs away from the ground and keeping grass short will take away the materials that rodents use to cover there movement from animals that hunt them. Take away that comfort zone, and they will leave.
Now we have taken away the food, cover and shelter. Would you live in a place like that? Neither will they! I hope this has helped you with your rat or mouse problem. If you would like a professional to help with it, call 800-714-8727 and we will be happy to set a hassel free apointment arround your schedual.

Learning more about Raccoons

Learning more about Raccoons
Category: Pets and Animals

Anytime Animal Control can be reached by going to anytimeanilcontrol.com for more imfo about nuisance wldlife, or to hire a wildlife professional. Todays blog is about Raccoons. I try to educate the public so they understand the animal a little more, and in turn calm you, the customer down. At the same time I let you know the dangers of having that animal in the area if any so you may be aware o those dangers.

I’ll post some of the most frequently asked questions and answers provide for each species.

Are Raccoons dangerous? A raccoon can certainly be dangerous, although only when cornered, or protecting there young. They have sharp teeth and claws. Many dogs instinctively chase raccoons. The raccoon will normaly run for a high spot to get away, like a tree or a fence. But in the event that a raccoon doesnt make it that far before the dog catches up, it will hold on with its front paws and use its strong back leggs and sharp claws to disembowel the attacker. In the event that a raccoon goes in your dirrection, it is best that you back away. This isn’t normal raccoon behavior. It may be that it feels that you are threatening its young, or worse yet, it may be sick. Don’t wait arround to find out.

How many young does a raccoon have?2-5 is a common litter. Most young are born in April or May and will stay with the mother up to a year.Usually one baby will stay with the mother even after she has given birth to the next litter. This gives the impression of the mother raccoon, the father raccoon, and the babies. This is just an illusion, as the male raccoon is a threat to the litter. His only job is reproduction, and he is not involved in the rearing of the young. A mother raccoon will fight a male to the death if need be to protect her young.

Can raccoons get rabies? Yes they can, just like most warm blooded animals. They only get t more often than dogs or cats because they haven’t been vaccinated aganst it. If you have alot of rabies cases in your area, don’t take a chance.

What do raccoons eat? Raccoons are omnivores, meaning that they will eat insects, rodents, birds and eggs, fruits and vegetables. Raccoons are fond of turtles, frogs, fish and shell fish. They need water to swallow the food they eat, as they don’t have much for saliva glands. This gives the impression that they are clean animals because they “wash the food before they eat” Raccoons often get into trouble by digging in peoples yards for grubbs, causing some real damage to peoples lawns!

How big can raccoons get? I’ve seen some 50 pound raccoons, but most are in the 25-30 pound range as a 2-3 year old raccoon. In the first year of a raccoons life, it grows quickly. Usually getting into the 20 pound range. Then it will gain size more slowly as time goes on.

How long do raccoons live? When a popuation of raccoons isn’t maintained, they will easily get sick and die young. 1-2 years is average. If the population is healthy the raccoons could live 6-8 years!

Learning More About Skunks

Learn more about Skunks!
Category: Pets and Animals

So many people find themselves with skunks causing issues on there property, that I’ve decided to write a little blog to help educate some of you and try to lessen the crisis you feel you may have. anytimeanimalcontrol.com is another resource you may use to locate helpfull imformation about dealing with all wild animals, or find a wildlife controller in your area to give you a hand. by calling 800-714-8727

So Basicaly, I’ll start with some frequently asked questions about skunks, and we can add on from there.

Do skunks carry rabies? They can contract rabies. Although they wont be any more prone to it than any other wild animal. If your area has a high rabies probability, they may have the virus. And you shouldn’t risk handeling the skunks or any other wild animal.

How would I know if the skunks in my yard have rabies or distemper?Signs will develope later on in these illnesses. They will become very thirsty. While you are near by the animals, they should run away. If they dont run away, thats your first cluethat something is wrong. They will be dis -oriented. At the latest stages of the illness, they will spin circles like they are chasing there tail. distemper and rabies are both ugly. A crust forms on the eyes, and they cant control the scent glands any more. The skunks will begin spraying a little at a time, all day long. Skunks are night time animals for the most part. If you see them in the day time, something is going on. It doesn’t mean they are sick, but it starts to raise the question why they are out and about in the day time. Mabe they just got harrassed by a dog and they are looking for cover. Just be on guard!

How do I know when a skunk is going to spray? Most times a skunk will give two signals before he sprays. The first is a foot stomp. It is what it sounds like. The skunk will raise up on his back leggs and come down hard on his front paws. He will repeat this untill you get away, because he wants you to know you are too close, and he is challanging you, hoping you will slowly back off, which you should heed, nice and slow! A skunk can spin and shoot in the blink of an eye, so dont make hm any more nearvous than he already is. Next his tail will swell up and he will have it out of the way of his jets, which are located on the inside of the rectum. At this point the fuse on the ticking stink bomb is realy short, and any sudden move will result in a mess. Protect your eyes and back off! The scent will eat plastic and rubber, and it will blind you.

How many skunks could there be under my house? I have taken any where from 1-20 from under a home! The one with 20 skunks was in the city of San Diego under a home with a cement slab. There were several entry points and large piles of dirt outside the holes, indicating a large void where the dirt came from. I set several humane traps and took 5-6 skunks per day untill I had them all. Its realy hard to tell how many skunks are in an area without actualy being there and checking the indication.

How many babies does a skunk have? A normal litter of skunks is 2-4 babies. When they start walking outside the den, they are not much larger than a hamster, and the tail looks usually large as they follow closely behind the mother waddeling around looking for food.

Will the Humane Society come and get the skunks? The Humane Society is in the practice of working with domestic animals, not wild animals like skunks. They may loan you a cat trap, but then the task of moving a frightened skunk is an issue in itself. It takes training to be able to get anywhere near a cahed skunk without getting sprayed.

Are you going to kill the skunks when you catch them? When ever it is possible and legal we will find suitable habitat for any healthy skunk. There is a chance it will need to compete with other skunks in the new area, but nature is competitive, and at least the animal has a chance to survive.

How long do skunks live? Most skunks in the wild live from 2-4 years. In captivity they live up to 10 years.

What do skunks eat? All skunks are omnivores. This means they will eat just about anything. Ground nesting bird eggs, grass hoppers and other insects, road kill, fruit, vegetables, small rodents. They are especially fond of honey and bee larve.

What do I do if I get sprayed by a skunk? The first thing is to remember not to touch anything made of fabric. Your clothes are most likely garbage.A pint of peroxide with 2 ounces of dawn dish soap will take the smell away. Use it like shampoo all over your body, and rince off. A second application is sometimes needed. but the smell will wash off of you, and dogs as well. It is a yellowish liquid, with alot of oil and sulpher compounds in it. The skunk spray will be broken down by the dawn dish washing liquid breaking the oil down, and the hydrogen in the peroxide breaking down the sulpher compounds.

Do skunks have any natural enemies? Yes, believe it or not, skunks are on the menu for owls, coyotes, foxes to name a few. When you think about it, they must be tender because they don’t run far. They are near sighted so the predator doesnt realy need to be stealthy. As a matter of fact, if they didn’t stink, they would be extinct!

Humane Skunk and Raccoon Removal/Control in Los Angeles and all of Southern California

Raccoons or skunks are doing lots of things to become a nuisance to people in metro areas like San Diego, Orange and Los Angeles counties. They tear up garbage, dig under the homes foundation, rip up sod on the lawn, and ruin Koi fish ponds. Although expensive damage is the result of having a raccoon or skunk choosing your property as a denning, or feeding site, most people don’t want the offending animal to suffer. Anytime Animal Control keeps the most up to date equipment on hand for the humane removal and control of all animals, including raccoons and skunks. But choosing the rite man for the job is also important. It takes time to remove a family of raccoons or skunks humanely. Putting too much stress on the animal could lead to blowing the operation completely and causing bigger problems. We want them to choose to leave the building and take any babies with her.
Keeping garbage in a trash containor with a tight fitting lid
Protect koi fish with fencing or have new ponds constructed with deep edges, at least 2 feet. A sloping edge allows a raccoon to ease his way into the water slowly, they wont want to jump in after your fish.
Ensure that your home is in good repair, the broken or missing crawl space covers are just a problem waiting to happen. Dont lay the welcome mat out for raccoon or skunk troubles.
Our people here at Anytime Animal Control would like to thank you for choosing us, and the animals will too! Come visit our website at anytimeanimalcontrol.com

Controlling skunks is actually controlling the behavior of skunks. They are omnivores, meanng they will eat just about anything.
